Maturity means that whatever the company is doing, the company does it in a well-documented way, and everyone knows what is expected of them and performs accordingly. Using mature processes performance is not dependent on heroes, and decisions are made on proper situation analysis.

Maturity means that whatever the company is doing, the company does it in a well-documented way, and everyone knows what is expected of them and performs accordingly. Using mature processes performance is not dependent on heroes, and decisions are made on proper situation analysis.
Maturity comes with two distinct connotations:
- mature technology, a term indicating that a technology has been in use and development for long enough that most of its initial problems have been overcome
- a software engineering term in Capability Maturity Model Integration or ISO/IEC 15504, indicating to which extent it is planned how to do things when developing, testing, documenting, maintaining software or electronic/embedded systems, etc.
