Coaching executives it helps to use analogies. For executives and wolfes the analogy is obvious…

Hierarchy
[Top]

  • Alpha wolf
  • Beta wolf
  • Grass roots
  • Omega wolf

Alpha wolf
[Top]

For the most part not the biggest or strongest animal is the alpha wolf. Instead it is the male or female with the most social and emotional intelligence.
Alpha wolfes representes the “values” of their species or pride. They are loyal, caring and responsible.

  • They communicate very articulatively, particular in conflict situations.
  • They actuate work-around-management literally: they run around to their team members to ensure everything is ok constantly.
  • They compliment by affectionateness.
  • They do nothing discouraging.
  • They offer junvenile wolfes chances to decisons to develop.
    • They allow junvenile wolfes making mistakes.
    • They delegate and let go. For wolfes delegation is an important leadership element. When alpha wolfes notice that a junvenile is overstrained, they do not usurp leadership, instead they nudge them to the right direction.
  • They take over command without ifs and buts in sudden danger. There is no disussion for other wolfes.

Beta Wolf
[Top]

Beta wolfes are coequal delegates of alpha wolfes. There is no “chief’s fugleman” or “assistent” in the pride.

Juvenile Wolf
[Top]

Juvenile wolfes are allowed to make mistakes. Alpha wolfes do not restrain them going ahead and to chase off the game. By this it is accepted that the pride do not have something to eat.

Omega Wolf
[Top]

Omega wolfes are sometimes smaller, or weaker wolfes, sometimes a discharged alpha wolf of a pride park. They have sneaked posture and a trapped tail. In the wild the omega role is seldom casted, and if only temporarily.
Omega wolfes functions as lightning rods (like a jester): they channel the pride’s aggressions, which would hamstring the pride.

Function:

  • Shoulder aggressions.
  • Intervene aggressions.
  • Divert aggressions.

Occupational Career
[Top]

In the wild junveniles leave the pride to found own families to become alpha wolfes.
In parks there are annual fights for rule of precedence. For the most part not the biggest or strongest animal is the alpha wolf. Instead it is the male or female with the most social and emotional intelligence.
